Short answer: yes, every SIM — plastic or eSIM — is traceable by the network it connects to. That is not a flaw, it's how mobile networks function: to route your data, towers must know roughly where your device is, and your phone identifies itself with hardware and profile identifiers. What the network always sees — on every SIM ever made
- • Device identifiers. Your phone presents its IMEI (hardware) and the profile's IMSI to authenticate. Swapping SIMs doesn't change the IMEI — networks can see the same handset returning with different profiles.

Can the police or government trace an eSIM?
Network operators can be legally compelled to produce connection records anywhere in the world, on any SIM. Device identifiers and location patterns still exist.
